John 14:6
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
‘Seeker Friendly’, is a term that most of us are probably familiar with.
It covers so much of what is seen as the visible church and is completely man-placating and not of God -- none of it. If the foundation stone is corrupted, so then too will be the building from that point upwards.
But what does the Bible have to say about a ‘Gospel’ without the cross, or one that does not confront our sin or that tells us that Jesus died in our place, that He bore our sin upon the cross as the final sacrifice of all? It does not placate us that I can tell you truthfully. God cannot and will not tolerate any other way but His way and He has said,
Isaiah 55:8
8 “ For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD.
Salvation was after all, God’s idea. Think about that for a moment. It is a huge realisation. It is never our idea, ever. He knew exactly what was needed to bring this fallen humanity back to their rightful place. And we absurdly think we can improve on the original plan by introducing all this newer / bigger / better / more fun/ more relevant / more experiential/ money making / more repetitive / all inclusive idea of what Salvation and being a Christian is all about? Hmmm…I think not.
In Galatians, Paul does not mince his words. He speaks straight to the heart of things, sparing no one’s feelings for the sake of the Truth. If we take offence at this message, then we are in a dark spiritual place and desperately need to seek the Lord on our knees and wait there if the answer is slow in coming.
The Gospel is meant to be offensive! It is meant to cut us to the very core of our being, to expose our heart for what it is without the real Jesus, thereby bringing us into the Light and Life that God wants us to have. Not the “best life now’ scenario that so many are running after.
We need to be brought to a place of the true horror of our sin and how God truly does view us and it, not listening to some charlatan telling us that, “God is love and that we are now under grace and that we can pretty much do whatever we want, because God has to forgive us….” Please don’t believe that if someone tells you that! We are called to be holy, but not our version of that -- again, His version.
Being a Christian is not all about the experience of whatever the latest fad is, that is doing the rounds. “But it feels so right in my heart -- so holy!” Wrong.
Jeremiah 17:9-10
9 “ The heart is deceitful above all things,
And desperately wicked;
Who can know it?
10 I, the LORD, search the heart,
I test the mind,
Even to give every man according to his ways,
According to the fruit of his doings.
Only God knows the heart of man. We cannot be trusted to know our own hearts.
Being a Christian is about God forming His Son in us at 100% cost to us, just as it cost Him 100% on the cross at Calvary.
David Wilkerson preaches a hard, needful message in this short clip. Let God have His way in your heart as you listen to him. Let the Holy Spirit speak to you -- do not close your eyes and ears and mind. Ask God to search you out, to show you.
There is no re-run of this life. This is it.
Galatians 1:6-9
Only One Gospel 6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.
