My Utmost For His Highest

Faith Defenders

  • KNOW, BELIEVE AND KEEP TRUSTING IN HIS LOVE September 9, 2010
    Anyone can keep his joy when he's riding high in the Holy Ghost, not being tried or tempted. But God wants us to keep ourselves in his love at all times—especially in our temptations. The apostle John tells us very simply how we can keep ourselves in God's love: "We have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that […]

The Solas

Sola Scriptura
The Bible is the sole written divine revelation and alone can bind the conscience of believers absolutely.

Sola Fide
Justification is by faith alone. The merit of Christ imputed to us by faith is the sole ground of our acceptance by God, by which our sins are remitted.

Solus Christus
Christ is the only mediator through whose work we are redeemed.

Sola Gratia
Our salvation rests solely on the work of God’s grace for us and in us.

Soli Deo Gloria
To God alone belongs the glory.

Discernment – The Twilight series of books – Looking at them in the Light of the Lord

I am not sure how many this will apply to who visit here, but I feel it is worth mentioning.

In my neck of the woods, the Twilight books and then the movie, were all huge hits. When the books came out, I discovered after the fact, that my son and all his friends – all around 16-18 had read them and  was curious to see why books, which were written for the teenage-girl market, were holding these young dudes (as they call each other ) like this.  I  got to know a little more, from a blog I chanced [...]

Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you.

I was so blessed this afternoon reading the wonderful, adoring words of this Psalm…

Psalm 33  (ESV)
The Steadfast Love of the LORD

1 Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous!
Praise befits the upright.
2 Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre;
make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
3 Sing to him a new song;
play skilfully on the strings, with loud shouts.

4 For the word of the LORD is upright,
and all his work is done in faithfulness.
5 He loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD.

6 By the word of the LORD the [...]

‘The Curse Motif’ by RC Sproul and ‘Not faith, but Christ’ by Horatius Bonar

Two incredibly good pieces on the Cross of Christ.  First a video by RC Sproul and then a written message by Horatius Bonar.

Be so blessed by them both.

Not faith, but Christ — Horatius Bonar

OUR justification is the direct result of our believing the gospel; our knowledge of our own justification comes from believing God’s promise of justification to every one who believes these [...]

Is your imagination of God Starved?

How often we can get in the way and slow ourselves down with our own ideas, behaviours and habits…

Taken from: My Utmost for His Highest – Oswald Chambers

February 10th.

“Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things.” Isaiah 40:26

The people of God in Isaiah’s day had starved their imagination by looking on the face of idols, and Isaiah made them look up at the heavens, that is, he made them begin to use their imagination aright. Nature to a saint is sacramental. If we are children of God, we have a tremendous treasure in Nature. [...]

Again, can you hear the still, small voice?

Reading David Wilkerson’s Daily blog today,  (and please do go and read it ) I was reminded of a post I wrote in September of 2008, most part of which is the title above.

It is one of those posts that is still very much a part of my life and I have learned with slow, awkward steps and many  scraped knees from falling down,  to wait upon the Lord and to listen for His voice a little better than I did at the time of writing it.

I came through a personal crisis last year, that [...]
