My Utmost For His Highest

Faith Defenders

  • KNOW, BELIEVE AND KEEP TRUSTING IN HIS LOVE September 9, 2010
Anyone can keep his joy when he's riding high in the Holy Ghost, not being tried or tempted. But God wants us to keep ourselves in his love at all times—especially in our temptations. The apostle John tells us very simply how we can keep ourselves in God's love: "We have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that […]

The Solas

Sola Scriptura
The Bible is the sole written divine revelation and alone can bind the conscience of believers absolutely.

Sola Fide
Justification is by faith alone. The merit of Christ imputed to us by faith is the sole ground of our acceptance by God, by which our sins are remitted.

Solus Christus
Christ is the only mediator through whose work we are redeemed.

Sola Gratia
Our salvation rests solely on the work of God’s grace for us and in us.

Soli Deo Gloria
To God alone belongs the glory.

Reality in our Christian walk

Do you ever find that your Christian walk is frustrating? Are you trying so hard to be a Christian, yet finding yourself instead so confused and flip-flopping from feeling you are on top of it, only to find yourself failing over an over and want to crawl away in guilt or lash out in anger at the seeming futility of trying to make it work or ‘feel real’? You may even be feeling so sick of yourself and feeling a failure and don’t see the point of going on.

Perhaps you wish you could have [...]

Others may, you cannot

I came across this article posted by a dear sister of mine on another site  and so wish to share it with you here.

I was curious to  find out more about GD Watson, as I had never heard of him until yesterday. He was born in 1845 and went to the Lord in 1923.  A short bio can be found at the  Well of Oath site.  I also found a link to other sermons by him at Sermon Index – GD WATSON should you wish to read more.

All I know is that a person who can write like this, has [...]

Still Human!

Some wonderful words of encouragement this Monday morning – living your life in the Lord in your everyday, regular ol’  life.

November 16th.

STILL HUMAN!

“Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31

The great marvel of the Incarnation slips into ordinary childhood’s life; the great marvel of the Transfiguration vanishes in the devil-possessed valley; the glory of the Resurrection descends into a breakfast on the sea-shore. This is not an anti-climax, but a great revelation of God.

The tendency is to look for the marvellous in our experience; we mistake the sense of the heroic for being heroes. It is [...]

“I Indeed… But He”

August 22nd. My Utmost for His Highest – Oswald Chambers

“I INDEED… BUT HE”

I indeed baptize you with water . . but He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and fire.” Matthew 3:11

Have I ever come to a place in my experience where I can say – “I indeed – but He”? Until that moment does come, I will never know what the baptism of the Holy Ghost means. I indeed am at an end, I cannot do a thing: but He begins just there – He does the things no one else can ever do. Am I prepared for [...]

After Obedience – What?

Am I living with the Lord 24/7 fully dependent on Him regardless of the size of the storm  roaring about me?

Am I living so surrendered to Him that I have the simplicity of knowing that there is nothing going on, that He does not have under His full control?

And am I prepared to step off the boat in Him, when there is no solid ground beneath my feet, but knowing fully that He will make a way and that the outcome will be His?

Oh dear precious Lord, these thoughts are the cry of my heart this day. Do whatever you [...]

But He was wounded for our transgressions

If ever you should think that Jesus came just to show us how to ‘live a better life’ and that he died needlessly on the cross, you need to read this passage of scripture below.

There is no mistaking in these incredible Old Testament words, that Jesus came to earth to pay the ultimate price for our sin. That sin, was actually the cause for us to be in a “wrong being” with God and we are only again put into “right being”  with God through Jesus’ death on the Cross. This passage tells the whole truth of it all [...]

Sanctification – Death and Life

What is Sanctification? How does it take place. What do I have to do to have this happen in my life? Know this: all who belong to the Lord are all going to go through it His way.

In the first writing, Oswald Chambers explains the Death side of Sanctification. Then He looks at the Life side.

Be so encouraged to reach all the more beyond your grasp for  the Lord, as you learn to die to yourself and allow Him to form Christ in you. ( and I include myself fully here too )

Bless you

SANCTIFICATION

Pray without Ceasing

A dear brother Mike, over at Possessing the Treasure, has written a post on prayer and we got into a short discussion about “unconscious consciousness” in the Lord.  I remembered a wee while ago that I wrote a post about this back in September 2008  and I wanted to share it again now.

This morning, I share a page from Oswald Chambers’ My Utmost for His Highest, then some thoughts of what I have learned so far about the subject of Praying without ceasing

(You can get My Utmost for His Highest free online from here: http://www.myutmost.org/)

Pray without ceasing (or pray continually). [...]

The Miracle of Belief

Oswald’s words to his students below, at his Bible College in London way back in the early 20th century, also apply to us even if we are not preaching.

If we are sharing the Lord with others as He leads us – even in small ways, if in our hearts we harbour any pride, or we are out to impress anyone, or draw any attention to ourselves, we miss the mark.

We may sometimes erringly think, due to incorrect teaching from our churches, that is us who are doing the saving bit in people. This is just not the case, It is [...]

All Noble Things Are Difficult

“Enter ye in at the strait gate . . because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way. . .” Matthew 7:13-14

If we are going to live as disciples of Jesus, we have to remember that all noble things are difficult. The Christian life is gloriously difficult, but the difficulty of it does not make us faint and cave in, it rouses us up to overcome. Do we so appreciate the marvellous salvation of Jesus Christ that we are our utmost for His highest?

God saves men by His sovereign grace through the Atonement of Jesus; He works in [...]
